Lead Inventory

The Lake Chelan Reclamation District is required to create a Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI) list and submit it to the Department of Health.  This inventory list will be publicly accessible upon request at the District Office.  If any lead service lines are discovered, they will be required to be replaced in effort to reduce lead exposure in drinking water. The compiling of information to create a list is a new requirement.

The District has always sampled the drinking water for lead every 3 years as required by the Department of Health.  All the prior tests have come back below the allowable limits.  This is important because exposure to lead in drinking water can cause serious health effects in all age groups. Infants and children can have decreases in IQ and attention span. Lead exposure can lead to new learning and behavior problems or worsen existing learning and behavior problems. There is no safe level of lead in drinking water.  Exposure to lead in drinking water can cause serious health effects in all age groups, especially pregnant people, infants (both formula-fed and breastfed), and young children. The children of women who are exposed to lead before or during pregnancy can have increased risk of these negative health effects. Adults can have increased risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, and kidney or nervous system problems.

DOH Recommended Steps to Reduce Lead in Drinking Water

Even though the District tests have been negative, below are recommended actions that you may take, separately or in combination, if you are concerned about the possibility of lead in your drinking water. The list also includes where you may find more information. It is not intended to be a complete list. It does not imply that all actions equally reduce lead in drinking water.
